A question about slurs
(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)Thinking about but thread where someone claims they have the right to use the word f*g because they are themselves gay. Is this the case? What about the N-word? on the internet where you would have to explain that you have N-word privileges do you still have them?
Re: A question about slurs
(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)If a gay dude wants to call himself a fag, okay. If he wants to call his gay friends who are okay with that nickname fags, okay. But if he calls someone else a fag and they ask him not to do that, and he keeps doing it, he's kind of an asshole.
Re: A question about slurs
(Anonymous) 2014-07-27 03:38 am (UTC)(link)Not necessarily because it's offensive (though in some places it could be), but because "ONLY I USE WORD B/C IT APPLIES TO ME!!!11" comes off as immature. I get people want to own a word to make it less derogatory, but a word is a word is a word. It's been said that it's the context you have to worry about. (I'm curious to see a "privileged" gay person's reaction to a Brit going out for a cigarette, though.)
