I appreciate the concept of multi-faceted fandom, and I agree that it's a great deal of fun to have multiple interests. But, as you've probably noticed, there are a lot of very passionate and involved people who consciously choose to funnel their enthusiasms into just one thing; it could be so they can focus their writing or creative talents, or it could be that they really just like to jump into one pool at a time.

What you're describing sounds to me a lot more like old-fashioned science fiction fandom, the book-oriented fandom that's been around since the 1930s, and which focused less on individual stories or authors, and more on the general concept of science fiction, and/or fantasy.
