In the example you gave? I would definitely update. Four enthusiastic readers who've let me know they're reading? That's one of the other beautiful things about not publicly stating a quota. You can change your mind, and no one else has to know.

I know I love my regulars. They're the reason that I always do finish my fics. Just how quickly that happens can be affected by how many reviews I get.

Are you the OP? I'm curious, do you ever write several chapters then hold off on posting them, or do you write a chapter at a time, then when you get a certain number of reviews begin writing again? I ask because what if you had, say, six regulars (who comment every chapter, or almost every chapter), and you post your update but no one comments for a couple weeks; you still have another chapter you've written. You wouldn't post it despite knowing that you have regulars that are probably reading and enjoying it?

Don't get me wrong, like I said, that's your right, but when I follow a story I don't always feel like commenting on each chapter. (Especially if the fic is incredibly long; I usually end up feeling like I'm repeating myself.)

I have one WIP I'm following that I have given several enthusiastic reviews to and probably will again, but I'm not going to do it for every chapter especially if there's nothing new for me to say.
