A little after Stargate Atlantis was canceled Stargate Universe was announced. The same directors and writers worked on it, but it was given the green light because SGA was apparently too expensive to continue and the newer series would be cheaper to make. It was also described as being darker, and seemed to have a younger cast, and all those factors combined made me so opposed to the idea of the show that I never watched it. I was mad bitter, yo.

Plus, I just knew if I did watch and enjoy it Syfy would cancel anyway, so why bother?

Yes, I was extremely upset with Syfy back then. Even now, I think I've only watched about four series on the channel since SGA was canceled. (And most of those I gave up on, and/or were canceled after a couple seasons.

I don't trust Syfy.

No one trusts FOX, and if they do they're wrong. (And will someday be burnt for it, mark my words!)

Why the fuck did I watch Almost Human? Sobs.

I'm sure I'm going to feel the same way this fall. (Dammit! Why does a show about Gotham City pre - Batman have to end up on that station!)

You were right, though. I had a hard time getting over my bitterness when I picked SGU up again. The first time, I gave it a try with an open mind and didn't like it so I dropped it, the second time, I watched it and spent most of my time, thinking "This would be so much better with Sheppard and McKay and Ronon and Teyla and Elizabeth, damn it." I ultimately got over that but, it was a tough pill to swallow at first.

I wasn't at all surprised when Syfy canceled Universe and MGM gave up on their plans for more Stargate movies. By that point it seemed like they didn't care and wanted to try different things. Baaaah.

I don't think there's anything unusual with missing the SGA cast though; lots of SGA fans seemed to feel that way. And SGA was my favorite so that made it even harder to adjust to the thought of a new cast, and that's if I could have got past the cancellation, which I didn't.

I've since heard that Universe was decent in its own right, but I can't gather any enthusiasm to watch it. It never got a proper ending so why would I do that to myself, you know? But it's great you managed to enjoy it despite your apprehension!

Yeah, Syfy's treatment of the whole franchise is totally disappointing. As an outsider, it seemed like the Stargate franchise treated Syfy well, in terms of delivering a loyal audience, but I'm an outsider so I can't very well say.

The SGA cast was just wonderful. I still miss them. :(

I still miss them. Ugh, they were perfect.

But I agree, I think Stargate was one of the best thing Syfy has ever been involved in; it no doubt gave them lots of viewers and had a large fanbase. If only they had done things differently, maybe Stargate would still be on television (in some form).

I tried watching SGU for awhile, but there was only one episode I really liked (which happened to be one of the very few ADVENTURES ON STRANGE PLANET episodes) and then everything else was unlikable characters, overwrought inter-character drama, and general boringness.

In my opinion.

So most of the series was set on the spaceship? That sounds incredibly boring. No one wants to look at the same environment episode after episode. This might actually be one of the reasons I'm getting so damn tired of Teen Wolf; I can't stand looking at that school constantly. Ugh.

It doesn't sound great, especially if there's no exploration or likable guest characters, but I can't judge too harshly since I haven't seen it. Still... I don't want to, and you only reinforced that decision for me.

Oh man I was so bitter about SGU, I gave it a try though because I like the SG universe but man I couldn't make it half an hour into it, it just wasn't the same and I couldn't reconcile the differences(that and I was missing all my fave characters).

I feel you. If SGA hadn't been canceled and Universe had been yet another Stargate show, I'm sure I would've watched it, but the thought that Universe was replacing SGA tainted it forever.

Yup, because of that I had a negative mindset towards SGU anyway and I can guarantee that it didn't help me like it.
