The Death of Pro Wrestling?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-28 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like we're heading into the apex of the death spiral of pro wrestling with TNA being cancelled on Spike TV and horrible numbers due out about the WWE network this week. Rumor has it the numbers will cause NBC/Universal to cancel RAW and SMACKDOWN and that ladies and gentlemen, will be the end of that human cockfighting sport known as Pro Wrestling.

The Death spiral that began with that wife and baby killer Chris Benoit.

Now if we could get rid of that other Cockfighting sport that calls itself MMA/UFC for good.

That's... certainly an opinion you have there.

I don't know, I'm not really a wrestling fan but I would be kind of sad if it went away. Wrestling fans are just so passionate about it, I guess. I can appreciate that.

You mean ignorant redneck fans of a 'sport' that continually promotes violence against women and allows men to get so 'roided up that they eventually kill their wives and children?

Yeah, the sooner this 'sport' dies the better.

I'm really not the person to be an apologist for wrestling, because as I said, I'm not really a fan personally. And from what little I've seen there probably are a lot of parts of it that are pretty screwed up.

But I don't get the impression that the Chris Benoit thing is regarded as a run-of-the-mill, risks of the sport thing. I get the impression that it's regarded as horrible and awful and something to be avoided. I don't know enough to say with authority whether or not WWE has done any good in fighting steroids, but it's hardly unique in professional athletics in dealing with that issue. And I've known plenty of wrestling fans that have been intelligent and articulate, and I'm really not enthusiastic about dismissing them en masse as ignorant rednecks. I also strongly suspect that you're trolling with this, but w/e

Are you sure you're not 'roided up? You sure are aggressive when it comes to this opinion.

It wasn't steroids that caused Benoit to lose his shit, but years and years of compounded brain damage. If there's anything to get pissed about with professional wrestling, it's their safety standards.

Teppu justifies the existence of MMA by itself. We needed this comic to exist. The first true girl Shonen.

That and most shonen quickly redeem the delinquint character. Instead we are getting what is pretty hard to argue isn't a villian protagonist.

I don't think you know what these words mean.

It sounds badass, though. It's gonna be the name of my new band.

Now this is what I expect from you radfem anon! The only reason you didn't get 10/10 is cause I don't think there's enough wrstling fans on here for this to get maximum dispersal

Why do you follow a thing you apparently don't like? I mean, I actually like wrestling and I didn't know anything about this, because I had other things to do. Anyway, shame if this really is happening, but it's not like pro-wrestling will ever go away. It's just the mainstream era that was always destined to come to an end, but the vast majority of people involved aren't in it for the popularity.

You mean the mainstream era hadn't ended already? I know it saw a resurgence in popularity about 10 years ago but for the longest time the only fans I've ever seen were the hardcore ones.

I figure the fact that was pulling a big enough audience to survive on major television networks meant it was still pretty mainstream, just the Attitude Era was the peak of it. And now ostensibly it's losing that home audience and will go back to relying on those who hit up live events in person and buy media...though I think Wrestlemania will stay on PPV.
