The popularity contests with this fandom, I swear. Why on earth do you have to "resist shipping them" and why does popularity matter like that? (Never mind that Rin is best described as polarizing, but popular.) You should ship what appeals to you based on the characters.

I rather like the fanservice-y stuff for this series, but I've never been able to make myself listen to any of the songs because I find them painfully embarrassing for some reason. I can believe they have the most shippy duet, though.

I personally knew nothing about Free or the fandom. With that said...
Rin seemed OK to me, I even read some of his wiki. But even I could see there was a widespread negative sentiment.

I remember RinHaru was dismissed as a "rival shipping" cliche too.

I also figured, the most popular pairing didn't involve Rin for a good reason right? So I went with that. I basically assumed the worst about him.

Re: fanservice. I felt embarrassed listening to the song. I'm in the same boat as you. It was upbeat but had some type of soft passion to it? omg I know the vocalists are straight but sorry

RinHaru did seem like a classic rival ship at first, but it turned out to be way more complicated than that.

But I'm so terribly confused here. If you know nothing about Free!, why are you thinking about RinHaru? Just go watch the show and decide if they're worth shipping or not.

I pretty much never like whatever the most popular thing in fandom is. All the ships in Free! are great, so I don't get why people try to make such drama about it.

tbh I also can't listen to any of the duets either. Although if they ever did Makoto/Rin one I would definitely listen since both Mamoru and Tatsuhisa already have nice singing voices.
