I'm kind of the same way. Even in regular slash, if a character comes across as SUPER SUPER DOM or REALLY CRAZY SUBMISSIVE when I don't think they're like that (and it isn't written convincingly enough to make me believe they're just hiding it) then it kind of throws me off.

I sort of like fic where the character in question is iffy about trying said kink (which is probably realistic) but ends up liking it, because I figure that's a thing that can happen. But if it's just a total clash then it's hard for me to get into it, yeah.
