I really suck at drawing men. No matter how much I practice they always look horribly stiff, weird, and just plain wrong to me.

This. It's an especially vicious cycle with my writing.

I like drawing women more, so I end up getting more attached to their characters, so they have a bigger parts, so there end up being less male leads, so I end up drawing men less, so I end up getting better and better at drawing women, and thus the gap widens.

I have that problem too! I get great images in my head of both male and female characters, but I'm so much better at, at least getting a sketch of a female character onto paper. It just helps me focus on them more, and they get so much more development because of that. And I don't even write a single word about 99% of the characters I think up. It's just once I've done a drawing of them it is so much easier to "get to know them" so to speak.
