Aang was kind of a dick as a kid. He had all those anger issues which were a huge red flag, especially at his age, and they weren't exactly sorted by him being flung into a series of violent battles, no matter what the series finale.

He was also twelve, lost his entire race of people, and had a massive responsibility weighing on his shoulders? He had reasons for being angry and they were pretty well-founded reasons. I think for a kid his age he handled situations well and rarely let his anger overtake him. It's kind of weird to label him as having anger issues when anyone else probably would have reacted the same or worse. I don't think anger had any bearing on how his relationship to Katara or his kids played out either, just unintentional favoritism.

Wait, what?

Um…sorry, don't agree at all. The one time I can think of where Aang REALLY seemed to lose it was right after they lost Appa which is understandable. Appa was literally the ONLY thing he had connecting him to his childhood and people he loved.

And considering the circumstances he was thrown into, I thought he was remarkably kind and level-headed for a twelve year old kid.

I hardly see how he was a dick.

na

+1

Other than a few understandable instances, I don't recall Aang being a particularly angry character and he seemed to be one of the most forgiving people in the series. Hell, even Katara seemed to be a more angry and hotheaded person at times than he was what with her initial extreme (and justified) hatred of the fire nation and her later would-be revenge quest against her mother's killer.

This.
Wasn't Aang the pacifist of the group anyway?

Per orthodox Zutaran doctrine, Aang was a horrible person. The rest can be derived.

You could probably also consider the part where he gets goes into Avatar state when the Earth Nation people kidnap Katara. I'd say that's pretty rage-worthy.

I must say I agree
his ethics were super annoying (and so were Katara's), so it didn't surprise me one bit that they became the parents they became

what ethics and why?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-31 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
da

Every time he and Katara put the feelings of someone he'd just met over the lives of thousands of people, and claimed it was the 'right thing to do'. He and Katara were just kids, so it was understandable, but it was still super annoying.

hmm?? when did they do that? (it's been a while since I have watched AtLA so forgive me if I'm missing an obvious example)
