no idea what they did "wrong", but fandom has ridiculous standards for parents anyhow. like every mistakes gets called abusive these days and fanon fills in sexual & physical & mental abuse, OOC homophobia, you name it

I guess it's because most fandom people are still closer to being a kid than a parent, so parent's POV is all about happy baby fluff and flawless dedication. it's always either idealization or horrible horror story.

Toph had two kids by two different fathers and didn't marry either of them, and this somehow makes her a horrible parent.

Well, they never said whether or not she married them or not (I think they intentionally left that vague in order to get it past the network censors). She definitely didn't stay with them for very long.

Also, I just realized, the show reveals that Toph had two baby daddies (and the possibility of having on or both kids out of wedlock is pretty high) and suddenly Korra gets yanked from the network.

neither child knew their fathers, tho. And Lin, the older, would probably at least have been able to tell Su who Su's dad was if Toph had married the man or brought him home.

The fact that they stated out right neither of them knew their fathers - and that neither of them seemed to care, either - implies that there were no long term relationships involved. Toph just got her freak on and kids happened.

Well, what makes her a horrible parent is that she didn't provide any structure for them, and let her daughters run around pretty much doing whatever they want.

I usually agree with fandom that way, and I have no idea where this is coming from. The kids all seem like normal functional adults.
