I've come across one of those on Ao3 once as well, they're not inherently bad or anything but they're more suited towards an 'imagine your OTP' blog really.

But other than it being short and not so original, what's wrong with it? Is it some type of fic that's being propagated on tumblr or something? I just don't understand what the OP is upset about.

It does count as a fanwork technically but it's not a fanfic, they're more like story prompts really and on tumblr there are blogs dedicated to having people submit their own 'imagine' scenarios. I don't think they're bad either(and I haven't come across that many on Ao3 to be annoyed by them) but I think they're better suited being submitted to an OTP blog than on a site that's primarily used for fanfic.
