Re: Japan cracking down on anime/manga pirating

I wonder how well that will actually work.
Is there some kind of official site on line where you could pay some kind of monthly fee read be able to read pretty much any manga ever? Translated into all the languages? If it wasn't ridiculously expensive I would be all over that. One for American comics too.

crunchyroll's working on online scans, but manga's a much larger industry than anime that I'm not sure it's possible.

And here's an article about the lesser known legal manga sites (but they probably don't have stuff you're interested in, so): http://mangabookshelf.com/44556/the-legal-manga-reading-sites-you-dont-know-about/

Thank you, I bookmarked the link and will definitely have a look later.

What I wish is that there were more sites that had a payment system like Amazon Instant Video, where you pay per episode/season that you download. I much prefer that to subscription sites because I don't really watch/read enough to be able to justify paying a monthly fee for something, but I'm happy to pay for a particular series.

That's the main reason I don't have a Crunchyroll account. I don't want to have to be worrying about a monthly payment; I just want to pay for the things I download.

That is a cool idea. I definitely see where that could be a lot better for some people than monthly subscriptions.

Yeah, Amazon's prices are totally reasonable, too - it tends to be $1.99/episode or so. AND you've downloaded them, so you get to keep them. You're essentially buying digital copies of the episodes to keep, unlike Netflix or Crunchyroll where you just get to stream things.
