Unfortunately true. The AO3 filters are basically broken -mainly due to uncontrolled tagging- so there is no real way to get to the good stuff easily without wading through oceans of trash. Being open-minded and not overly restricting tags is a great goal in theory, but in practice it's transformed this archive into a hot mess.

In other words, AO3 is slowly replacing FF.net as the Pit of Voles... My growing disillusion is particularly acute because I had such high hopes and so much respect for this initiative for so long. And the fact that there isn't a lot of alternatives to it now, since it helped make the biggest older archives obsolete. :(
