AO3 use to be the place where all the best fic was found. Now you've gotta wade through the dribble you'd normally find at FF.net just to get anything remotely good. It all sucks so much I've mostly given up on fic unless I get a link to it from a trusted source.

Unfortunately true. The AO3 filters are basically broken -mainly due to uncontrolled tagging- so there is no real way to get to the good stuff easily without wading through oceans of trash. Being open-minded and not overly restricting tags is a great goal in theory, but in practice it's transformed this archive into a hot mess.

In other words, AO3 is slowly replacing FF.net as the Pit of Voles... My growing disillusion is particularly acute because I had such high hopes and so much respect for this initiative for so long. And the fact that there isn't a lot of alternatives to it now, since it helped make the biggest older archives obsolete. :(
