chihiro was definitely underage is spirited away and she still had a romance with haku

so

and did you forget about ponyo and sasuke???

i forgot kids are only allowed to have cute romantic crushes when they're friends with the opposite sex

I never saw Chihiro and Haku as romantic and have always been confused about that.

It's always hard to tell. There's no real difference between how Chihiro and Haku are with each other and how Sophie and Howl are, except the latter kiss. It just seems to be the way they choose to portray friendship and romance, as being basically identical except for physical closeness. I think Ghibli likes to portray 'transcendent' friendships that are a little of both and neither.

Same. I saw it as something that potentially could become romantic when she got older, but as it was, they just came across to me as two people who cared a lot about each other.

Well, when I said once that Chihiro and Haku were my OTP, I did get a comment of "Ew, they're just kids! They can't have sex!" in reply. (I had said nothing about sex.)
