(Anonymous) 2014-08-01 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)In H/C I prefer to see my favorites hurt because I enjoy seeing my favorite characters hurt. It's got nothing to do with making a character look good through brave/heroic character traits or whatever. It has to do with me enjoying seeing my favorite characters in pain.

There is a sum total of one fictional character who I have ever related to, and when I examined him more closely I found he wasn't all that like me at all. I have as many reasons for favourite characters as I have favourite characters, some of them think the way I do, most of them don't, but I just think they're all the bestest ever.
And yeah, I like seeing my favourite characters get sent through the wringer.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)This is a good point. I can't explain the dynamic, really, but I like my h/c heavy on the hurt (but not ridiculously so), and light on the comfort. Meaning, I don't want to read page after page of someone hugging them and feeding them soup and gently tending to them. I want a hard whump and some empathy from others.
