I don't think it's necessarily a book vs. movie thing, OP. Some people just have weird spelling blind spots, where no matter what they do they just can't remember the right spelling of some words. I'm like that with seperate separate.

I was coming here to say something similar. There are some words/names that, for some reason, I can never get right on the first try. Doesn't matter how many times I see them or how many times I write them.

That said, this kind of demonstrates the necessity of proof-reading and having a beta.

One of mine is that my a's and my e's get switched around and, fittingly for "Gandolf", sometimes "o" gets in on that. (Doesn't help that my name has an "a" in it that is pronounced "o").
