I want so much that I can't have. The ability to function independently. A home of my own, far away from here. Magic powers to help all my friends with the things I can't help them with. Willpower. Intelligence. A better personality. Some way in which I'm not completely worthless. The ability to believe that my future will really be different from my past. It all looks so hopeless.

I relate to this a lot. There is so much I want to change. I try to turn that into motivation to do what I need to do to make it happen but it's hard sometimes.

I can't decide if it's better, or easier I guess, to dream big or to accept an imperferct situation on hand. Or just not analyse and compare it at all.

You've got to find the middle ground. There's a looooooooot of room between dreaming big and doing absolutely nothing.

You're right.

I want a lot of that, too, especially the ability to function (independently). What's really sort of depressing is that I was actually doing better - I had left my past behind me and got a college education and had my shit sort of together. But now I can't really get a job that fits with my abilities and it sometimes feels like I've done all this fighting for nothing.

I feel you, OP. The ironic thing is, if you started to work on small projects or attaining skills that would help you towards those goals, it'd help a LOT. But feeling depressed like this makes it really hard to do even the most trivial tasks.

Still, if you feel up to it, you could write down a list of skills or small goals you think would get you closer to being independent, improving your personality, helping people in need out, etc. Whether it's learning how to cook or finding a volunteer position at a soup kitchen/animal shelter/homeless shelter, I can tell you from firsthand experience that accomplishing one tiny baby step has the potential to to dispel some of that hopeless feeling.

Hang in there, OP. We've all been there, and you have my sympathies.

God, I could have written this.

OP, I think we have to just believe that we'll get through this. Somehow? I don't know.
