I feel you, OP. The ironic thing is, if you started to work on small projects or attaining skills that would help you towards those goals, it'd help a LOT. But feeling depressed like this makes it really hard to do even the most trivial tasks.

Still, if you feel up to it, you could write down a list of skills or small goals you think would get you closer to being independent, improving your personality, helping people in need out, etc. Whether it's learning how to cook or finding a volunteer position at a soup kitchen/animal shelter/homeless shelter, I can tell you from firsthand experience that accomplishing one tiny baby step has the potential to to dispel some of that hopeless feeling.

Hang in there, OP. We've all been there, and you have my sympathies.
