Anyone else notice the really strange, confusing cuts? The directing up until now has been passable, but this episode actually came off straight-up incompetent.

Mars actually looks the most bearable in this insectoid style but they refuse to draw her well so it's all for nothing. There is literally not one well-drawn shot in this episode. Also that soft-shading they decided to go with is really unflattering. It also seems like more work. Why did Toei make every bad decision they possibly could?

Dat transformation. Well, after Mercury's CGI water effects from the 90s I guess this one is pretty bearable. Dare I say it came the closest to cool out of all of them so far. But they still strike these awfully drawn and embarrassing poses when they do their little monologues at the end. Who's idea was that?

I was hoping Ami would get more character but she's still pretty lame. I find her character hook to be laughably Gary Stu-ish. "I'm just so smart and good at everything that no one wants to be my friend because they're so intimidated by me! It's not my fault!" Man I wish that was my biggest flaw.

But a couple confessions: I like Usagi. Her annoying personality actually has charm to it that comes across even in this terrible looking show. I'm actually excited to see her grow and change but not completely disgusted by who she is now. She better change soon though, because this character gimmick each episode of having her be attracted to the new scout for some superficial (and kind of dickish) reason is going to get old if they do it every time and will make her look like an asshole. I also like Mars. She didn't get much exploration but she seems like a good foil to Usagi's everything.

But the biggest problem with this show is that next episode doesn't have Best Girl Jupiter and that's a fucking travesty. 0/10 bad anime

I remember not really liking Ami way back when, and I think it's because in the manga she's Gary Stu-ish like that.

Ami was at her best in PGSM, where she was so possessive of Usagi that she nearly let Naru die.

I don't remember that, is PGSM the live-action one?

Yep. I'd definitely recommend checking it out. The special effects and acting are hard to get used to, but the character development is worth it imo.
