At least you are self aware enough to know how fucking annoying that is and how terrible you are.

and hopefully people are able to look at your posting history and realize this before they invested.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-03 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
People here get really angry about this, I've noticed.

If it's marked a wip don't read it? Why does don't like don't read stop applying to wips??

Not OP but this vitriol is always so weird.

Calling them "terrible" seems a little OTT.

They should probably stop posting unfinished WIPs, though.

If it's marked a wip in some way idgaf, I just avoid it. Easy enough to do for me but apparently not for angry anon??

(Anonymous) 2014-08-03 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Angry anon must have been reeeeaaally hurt by a WIP once.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Thise scars just never fully heal...

It always surprises me how entitled people get about stuff provided for absolutely free.

Yeah, because authors who write for you on their time for free owe you that fic.

Seriously, if you're that upset, just stay away from WIP's altogether.

Too bad you don't realize that you're not entitled to work, and a person isn't terrible because they are struggling to finish something.

Do any of the people who feel like this have any idea what it's like for a writer? Like somedays you can't write, everything you do write makes you angry and you just take a break and start something else. Or one day you start something, and you plan everything out in a document but then you lose it because the USB drive gets fucked up and demands you reformat it and you lose EVERYTHING and you're just too angry with yourself and disappointed to even go back to it? And then you start out strong with an idea and start plotting it....and then slowly the inspiration for the idea peters out when you're onto chapter 5 and you need a break/ These are all things that have

Writers are not machines that just crank out stories. We are PEOPLE.

and to those who say - "well don't post anything until you're finished, God!"

Maybe that works for some people, but not for everyone. Working on it bit by bit helps me because if I sat down and wrote a whole fic all at once , I'd get intimidated and wouldn't be able to write a thing. If you don't like an incomplete story , no one's forcing you to read it....just don't demand people write something in a certain way or don't write it at all. (I try not to DROP things if I can help it , just put it on hiatus for when I have ideas again)

If that's how you work, fine. Just make sure you mark your WIP work clearly so people don't get invested only to have you flake out. Also, don't be one of those assholes who whine about not wanting to post new chapters until you get reviews. Lots of people may not be reviewing because they're waiting until the frigging story is finished to read it.

"assholes who whine about not wanting to post new chapters until you get reviews. "

I don't though....like I don't say anything about reviews other than I appreciated them and don't waste time angsting over someone not reading. I only get mad when I get angry PMs that I'm not working on a story when I'm dealing with exams and work

I think you should reserve the word "terrible" for people who are actually, you know, terrible. Like, not recycling every bottle=not terrible, shooting a man just to watch him die=terrible, not finishing a fanfiction=not terrible, viciously abusing another person=terrible.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
OP is why I don't read WIPs and can't drum up very much respect for WIP practitioners.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-05 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they've noticed your loss and miss you. Mh-hm.
