Turtles do not have noses.

This is pretty much my entire issue with the character designs for this film.

Holy shit, I think you just put your finger on why they look weird to me.

Yeah, turtles do have noses. Look:

See, noses.

The comic and animated versions don't, but that is just because it is easier for illustrators and animators to leave them out. Same with the rubber suit movies.

I'm sure that there ill be lots of reasons to hate on this movie, but the noses are not one of them. The character designs are pretty much what you'd expected from a vaguely photo-realistic live action adaptation.

Technically speaking they have a beak with nostril holes, not a semi-human looking nose.

Most of the animated version had something that looked like a beak granted they didn't animate the nostril holes but it looked much better then this.

If it has nostril holes in it, then I'm calling it a nose. It looks like a nose, serves the same function as a nose. Using the technical term to try and claim it isn't is just rules lawyering and, as my old DM used to say, that means roll for damage caused by your own party smacking you about for pedantry.

Or lips, or teeth like that. I find the designs unintentionally hilarious.

I've had a pet turtle for 20 years now and she totally has a nose. It doesn't look like a human nose but it's still a nose.

I also have a pet Turtle who is about 15 and she also has a beak.

How is a beak with nostril holes not a nose? We say dogs and cats have noses and theirs don't look like human noses, either.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I meant a human looking nose I'm sorry I wasn't specific enough that is my mistake.

And I say dogs and cats have a snout personally.

I only use nose in terms of humans personally that was my mistake.

I realize y'all are being earnest here, but this exchange is every sort of adorable.

Nah, the real problem is the lips...

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm reminded of the fish scientist who, while consulting on Finding Nemo, pointed out that clownfish don't have eyebrows. The animators pointed out that clownfish don't talk, either!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, their noses are exactly why I find the Bay version so off putting to look at.

I found out later in the trailer that they're fucking huge and talk like wiggers, which turned me off completely.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Turtles also don't walk on two legs and are ninjas. What part of "humanoid" is that hard to grasp?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-04 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
The part where it looks stupid. I have enjoyed nearly 30 different versions of these characters between cartoon shows and films and comic books and this is the first one that I feel looks completely off base with anything I could realistically see happening in some hypothetical form.

Hell I even like the way they looked in the Coming out of our Shells tour more then this and those Turtles had jean jacket vests.

And what about the teeth? Those look creepy on a tortoise.

Turtles have nostrils though.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Just coming here to say that it's the fucking noses! Why did they give turtles who turned into talking teens noses? I could understand it if it were human teens who'd turned into turtles.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
And the lips.
