Turtles do not have noses.

This is pretty much my entire issue with the character designs for this film.

The comic and animated versions don't, but that is just because it is easier for illustrators and animators to leave them out. Same with the rubber suit movies.

I'm sure that there ill be lots of reasons to hate on this movie, but the noses are not one of them. The character designs are pretty much what you'd expected from a vaguely photo-realistic live action adaptation.

That's my problem, actually -- I don't think they look like turtles at all. They look way too human IMHO; Michelango has lips, Leonardo has a nose and looks like a bald man (or Shrek), etc.

Yeah, I remember when they unveiled the designs and everyone was raging, and I was like "Actually this isn't so bad. It's different, but not so bad."

However, EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS REBOOT BESIDES THE DESIGNS pisses me off.

Like half the people I know right now are either flailing or moaning about Sailor Moon Crystal, because "omg this is my childhood". I'm older than them, and TMNT is my "omg this is my childhood" thing, and I have actually been totally okay with every previous redo. The first cartoon was way different than the comics. The first movies were way different than the cartoon, closer to the comics but sort of a happy medium. Another cartoon reboot was closer to the comics for awhile. The current Nick series is way different than anything that came before, and I have caught a few episodes and am totally cool with it, even with April being a kid now.

Michael Bay version? I literally wind up half-blinded by rage for several minutes* every time I see an ad for the thing. There are so many BETTER things to be angered by than the character designs, I don't know why anyone even gives a crap except that it's an easy, immediately obvious target.

* I know this is not healthy/sane. I never said I was healthy/sane.

Something about the redesigns weird me out something fierce. Maybe it's the noses, maybe it's the lips, maybe it's both, but I don't like them. And yes, I know the TMNT are not realistic in any way so them having human features might not be the most bizarre thing about their existence, but it just doesn't work for me. I miss the old designs.

I can't quite get over the design, like I'm not sure what it is, but something really bothers me about them. It probably doesn't help that I saw the trailer for the first time last night when seeing GoTG and seeing the bit where Michelangelo uncovers his face on a giant screen was... unsettling.

I cannot with the human lips. I think they would have looked fine without that (and maybe with the noses a little less human-like, but the lips are just...no)

The designs don't bother me. There was a point in the animations they weren't "prettified," if I recall.

It's that bit you mentioned about the movie quality that has me worried.

I mean...turtles. Ninja turtles. Humanoid ninja turtles. It's going to look weird in live action no matter WHAT you do. It's an adaptation of an ANIMATED franchise.

This is the first time I've seen the designs and they look so bad, man. Leonardo looks like an old bald man (no offense to old bald people in general) and... I can't see the rest. Not even sure if I want to. What the hell, Michael Bay. What the ever loving hell.

I honestly think that these designs would have been received better if anybody *but* Michael Bay was at the helm. Of course, there would have still been complaints, but not so much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
