I think op's point is that most tv shows take the personalities of the "love interests that were significantly older (mid twenties)" then shove them in high school shows and claim they're the 13/14 year old boys that were too immature for you.

If tv high school were real high school most shows would be unwatchable

Yep. I've had younger fandom acquaintances complain about not being able to find a guy like [fictional character] and all I can think is "Honey, you're 16..."
