For the most part, European chocolate will blow American chocolate out of the water.

Hershey's is just shit IMO, but intentionally made cheap for affordability. Same with M&M/Mars. I'll admit I'll pick some fun size bars during Halloween, but if I want quality, I'll pay an extra couple of bucks for some Swiss naps.

I don't think Ghiradelli and Godiva are American.
