I have both problems, actually (which is why these days I don't post fic until it's at least half-completed...which is difficult for me because I am one of those "thrive on feedback" kind of writers).

No matter how simple the idea I start with, the planning/details soon get way out of hand and I'm perpetually worried it's either too long or too short, so I'm never quite sure what to do with it after the first few chapters.

My other problem is right now, I have some WIPs that I want to take down because I know I'm never going to finish them...but then, I also know there are some WIPs which I like to reread despite knowing they're abandoned (sometimes I like to 'fill in my own ending' in my head), so I don't want to take them down in case someone else out there likes reading those fics. *le shrug*

I've never taken something down - but there's stuff from my early fanfic days that got lost, which is sort of sad.

Aw, that sucks. Maybe try using the Internet Archive or a WayBack machine to find old webpages, if you ever put it online?

I'm...kind of glad that most of my earliest stuff is lost. *shudders* I was writing about drugs, sex, and murder when I was 12, so you can imagine just how "well" those fics were written. :P
