sad news (TW: animal death)
The vet came to our house and she passed peacefully.
I feel weird about it. Sad and relieved at the same time (she had bone cancer and was in a lot of pain the last couple of days). I keep thinking if I just walk to another room she'll be laying there. It's also weird seeing my parents cry. My mom cries rarely, and my dad even less. We all cried today.
I'm actually doing ok - it was rough for a few hours today but we've been anticipating this for a long time. I'm just not thinking about it a lot most of the time. We have our other two dogs too so the house doesn't feel really empty or anything.

I know what you mean about the relief. In my dog's last days she could barely move and for a while before that her arthritis was even worse than mine and I felt bad watching her move around.
I was at school at the time and my dad sent me a collage he had made of old pictures of her. It was completely unexpected since he's not usually the sentimental type.
It's good that you're doing okay. I hope it doesn't hit you hard later.
Re: sad news (TW: animal death)
She *could* move, but she didn't very often, since it was painful and hard. She had only two fully functioning legs and one half-functioning. The other leg is where the tumor was (bone cancer) and it was just completely useless at the end.
I have an album of pictures of her on Facebook that I add to when I find more pictures.
Also, thank you. :)

Re: sad news (TW: animal death)
Losing a pet is incredibly hard. It does make it easier if you try to keep your mind off it, and it's good that you have other pets to be affectionate with and give you company!
Either way, it's understandable that you feel a certain sense of relief seeing as she was in pain. No one wants to see a loved one suffer.
I wish your family the best. <3
Re: sad news (TW: animal death)
Thank you so much. <3 My siblings both left the house because they didn't want to be here when it happened. My sister was only two when we adopted her - she probably doesn't even remember life without her.
Re: sad news (TW: animal death)
I understand them leaving, but I also get staying. Being with a dog that long...they're part of your family and it's hard to remember what life was like before they came along. (If it's their first experience with death, that makes it even worse.) I hope you all manage! I know it'll be tough, though.

It helped to get a new kitten and distract myself with that, and I'm starting to really like the little asshole.
Re: sad news (TW: animal death)
And yeah, I have the same feeling - like if I walk into the next room she'll just be laying there.
How old is the new kitten?
