I disliked her more as the seasons went on, but damn I'd want to be her just to fuck Don.

I guess that makes sense? My favorite is Peggy, and I'd have probably been like her.

But...I dunno, OP. Betty's a bit of a trainwreck, and despite the fact that I can understand why she's done some rather awful things (her childhood and first marriage were both all sorts of fucked up), it doesn't erase the fact that she's done them.

I need to get around to watching this. I've heard how much people hate Betty and then I watched the first two episodes and thought she was cute.

Betty goes through a lot of character growth as the show goes on and some of it isn't... great growth.

A lot of the people on this show are assholes.

I've heard that too. I'm curious to see for myself.

Give it a try. It's frustrating to see the regressive (though not entirely abandoned) sexist and sometimes misogynistic ideas about women (and the ridiculous/sexist ones about men), but a number of the characters are fabulous, and their story arcs are awesome (Peggy, Joan, Sally, even Don, though he pisses me off a lot, Peter....)

Go for it. It's visually gorgeous and sometimes amazingly fun and just really good stuff.

I love Betty sfm. I don't think I would have been like her, but I think she's a great character. Or at least she was. The writing for her was good in seasons 1-3, but it's been letting her down since then.

I love Peggy a lot too.

And Megan.

I like Joan, but I don't ~love~ her as much.

My feelings about Joan have been back and forth. I'm not sure how I feel about her anymore.

I'm also really confused about the Megan stuff. Wtf even happened there besides Don being, well, Don? I guess it was a really bad threesome.

Yes! Megan! I really feel for her.

Oh, man. I think i love them all about equally, though there is an edge of 'omg, fuck you, Betty!' to my Betty-love.

I think I love Sally the most, though. :)

I don't hate Betty, but she is exactly who my mom would have been had she been born 10 years earlier, so I find her hard to watch.

I would have been very like Betty. I would have gotten married and had kids just because that's what you did and I probably wouldn't have had any other options. And I would be a terrible mother because I'm just not cut out for it. Though hopefully I wouldn't have married someone like Don. Still, I would have been unhappy with my life without quite realizing why.

I quite love Betty. I think I would have been like her, but part of me has a feeling I would have ended up more like Peggy, so *shrug* whatever.

HUGE Betty fan. I adore her. She is the stand in for my lovely aristocratic WASPy Mom whose parenting style is somewhat similar. Betty gets a ridiculous amount of hatred for her parenting which--guys, have you MET Don Draper? the guy who walked out on his 6 year old's birthday party? The guy who contemplated walking out on his entire family and whose mistress talked him out of it? The guy who disappeared for three weeks COMPLETELY on his family while screwing around in California? The hatred for Betty astounds me, because ALL of it boils down to her parenting and so it is all down to the sexist notion that mothers must be held to a higher standard. At least she's fucking THERE.

Betty is a goddess and the rest of us can only hope to bask in her light.
