Well, I remember calling myself a tomboy on F!S and some anon got all up in arms about it. I can't remember why.

It was probably me, because I despise that term. It undermines the idea that girls can like whatever the hell they like without being less of a girl.

I think you misunderstand the term. Girls who call themselves tomboys are usually the most defensive about any implications that they're not as much of a girl just because they do lots of "boy" things. I know; I was one.

For all intents and purposes, I was a "tomboy" too. And I hated being called it then, and I still hate it now. Frankly, that defense of tomboy as a phrase to show "I'm a girl who likes boy things, but still a girl!" is stupid to me. Because there's nothing about "tom" or "boy" that says girl.
