He wanders a lonely desert wasteland with his animal companion (one assumes he tamed the wild beast at some point in his life, and it is as long lived as he), and he searches desperately for truth and meaning and hope in the face of the bleak post-apocalypse. And all along, he relentlessly carries on the special task passed to him by his superiors in his youth: to go forth and change the very face of the world - save us all - a mission he accepted without question or hesitation centuries ago and continued on as all his peers fell lifeless into the sand.
