Teen Wolf thread!
(Anonymous) 2014-08-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)Show: I'm pretty much just rolling with everything I see people complaining about and am mostly enjoying this season, even though it seems really disjointed between Kate and the assassins and the benefactor.
Also, I think I've finally moved firmly into the "Stiles is awful" camp. His opinion on the Hale money was offputting and his treatment of Malia was egregious.
Fandom: I'm really tired of hearing people say "Jeff Davis caved to fan pressure" on (highlight for season 5 cast spoiler) . Really, I'm tired of JD hate in general. Especially when they're blaming him for things the director did. It just reinforces my opinion that some of the biggest critics (more like haters) have no idea what goes into television production.
Re: Teen Wolf thread!
I loved yesterday's cold open and its biohazard disease theme, and all the convenient plot devices (thanks for the forced mention of reishi, Derek and Satomi, good thing it's in the basement they're already holed up in!), and Satomi getting all bullet time. And that chemical weapons assassin? HA HAHA HA ♥
You know, I've never thought Stiles was benevolent, so I thought him being pretty self-serving and secretive was perfectly in character. He insisted on keeping the parents in the dark, and was one of the people who never tried to bring Lydia into the field of knowledge, because he thought it was safer, so it's nothing new. Of course, not that the fandom remembers that, or his petty tendencies, because they think he's a gentleman or something.
I can't recall Stiles actually being a moral compass tbh. That's generally been Scott's role (although I did think it was a bit of a let down when it was revealed that Scott didn't take and hide the money because he was tempted to keep it for his mom. but now that the idea has been planted.... thanks, stiles :D)
Also, I actually want to see conflict in the Stalia relationship before I can fully buy it. I can see that Malia basically imprinted on him, but the idolization of Stiles is pretty gag worthy since I'd rather hear something other than STILES SO GREAT HE'S JUST GREAT LET'S BE STILES whenever she talks about him. Actually questioning the idea that her boyfriend knows best for her is awesome.
So unexcited about Danny unless he becomes more than that character that shows up to take off his shirt and remind you that he's gay sometimes.
Re: Teen Wolf thread!
The show is okay, really, but the 'Scott is awesome, omg, true alpha!!' stuff and the 'hero' music they keep playing when he does something mundane is getting on my nerves. I am in love with Derek being around *grown ups* and getting the Sheriff's and Deputy Parrish's respect (and being not only competent but smart).
I'm enjoying the little flirtation with Parrish and Lydia, though I do think he's too old for her and Lydia needs to be on her own for a bit (figure out her Banshee self). I just...delight in Kira. She's so damn adorable but i wish we'd see some more of her kitsune side.
I read a comment from J. Davis about Malia that was basically 'i was hoping the fans wouldn't notice her mental development' which is so squick-inducing to me. Gah. I really do *like* the TW world, i just wish the creator would put a bit more *thought* into it.
On the spoiler - i like that he's bringing that character back, i only hope he gives him *something to do*, and explains how he 'knows' about BH already.

That did annoy me a lot. They really don't have the right to hide that from her. I have always disliked the 'i didn't tell you to protect you' crap in tv shows/movies.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-06 02:38 am (UTC)(link)Peter: I guess I still have a little werewolf strength.
Derek: More than a little...
As the show saying Peter's strength is growing as Derek's weakened. Because to me it was just a saying and an observation, not some sort of secret message about future events.
I agree with some of this.
(Anonymous) 2014-08-06 05:22 am (UTC)(link)I don't think Stiles is awful. No, I don't think he should have kept quiet about Malia - though Lydia and Scott (and Kira, but I'm not totally sure about that) also knew and didn't tell - but, actually, I kind of think it should have been Peter's responsibility to tell her. Also, about the money, well, Stiles has never been totally on board with always doing the right thing (at least talking about it - his actions sometimes contradict what he says), he tends to be more pragmatic or doing the expedient thing. I was honestly a little surprised he was so absolute that they should tell Derek. But, well, he's kind of right about Peter, I mean I'm not totally sure what he's up to (gaining strength {from where?}, killing the mute before they could take him in and question him, working with Kate {seriously?} for power) and given the things he's done in the past, they shouldn't trust him. I think an argument could be made for giving all the money to Derek, though I'm pretty sure Stiles was thinking give half to Derek and keep the other (Peter's) half. I never thought Stiles was any sort of paragon - he's kind of an ass sometimes and more morally gray than Scott. But I like him that way - generally a good guy, wanting to protect the people he cares about, but really going about it the wrong way a lot of times and sometimes being self-serving (or, I guess more group-serving, where group equals the people he cares about and sometimes the people they care about).
I'm tired of the Jeff Davis hate, too. I guess there might be a show where the creator has complete control over every detail without any input from writers, directors, actors, or network people, but I don't think I've come across it. And sometimes there are other considerations that have nothing to do with the character side (contracts, schedules, personality clashes, etc.).
