I watched the fourth and final season of "The Killing" on Netflix yesterday...so spoilers.

I must say, I do like that Netflix puts all the eps up at the same time....

So, the ending is ~4-5 years in the future...Holder is a dad (he and the moms didn't make it as a couple, quelle surprise) and Linden comes back to town (she'd left at the end of the current day story and hit the road) and he's working with N/A meetings. They talk, he wants her to stay, she starts to leave...cut to the very end, he's leaving the meeting and looks up to see her leaning against her...he walks toward her and as they get close, the camera focuses in on her smiling face and.... Cut to black. It's basically implied by that that they're going to hook up as lovers.

Obviously, open to interpretation, but from their convo just before the end...that's the direction they hinted at, very strongly. I'm just disappointed they went there. Why couldn't they have just been friends with that friendship being strong enough to keep her in the city? I guess I should be glad they left it until the postscript to have them hook up.

I want to read your comment so bad because it's so rare for people to be chatting about The Killing but I'm trying to savor the season and make it last as long as possible, so I can't. Damnit.

Well, the series already went there, with the kiss from last season. That didn't stick, for the same reason I don't think anything will. It's hard to explain, but... they're just better off as friends, even though they do have chemistry. Even if you can't ignore the implications, (haven't seen the fourth season, so I'm taking your word that it's strong) maybe you can imagine they end up as friends anyway?

Not saying romance is inevitable, but just very strongly hinted at? But it would've been nice to have the ending suggest friendship more so than romance, just because we the romance stuff happens all the time and I don't think they'll make it work, tbh. (Not a big fan of het. If it's not obvious. :D)

I thought, "But there were only three seasons of The Killing! Did I miss one?" Then I realised you meant the US version!

Was Holder the politician? In the original, the writers intended Lund to have an affair with the politician but the actress talked them out if it, and you could still see a sort of pre-attraction between them, especially on his part, which was a fascinating change from most TV relationships.

In the English version, Linden is the female cop and Holder is the male cop who becomes her partner. I don't remember there ever being any sort of attraction between Linden and the mayor (who ended up paralyzed as a result of Linden's actions) but I did mainline the first three seasons over a few days, so may have missed something subtle.
