Re: How do you prefer your smut?

Sometimes I crave PWP, sometimes I want a complicated story of which smut is just one part. But characterization is really critical, it's like 90% of my enjoyment of smut, so the minute that ship sails is the minute I lose interest. Even in original work, if the personalities established in the story up until that point just evaporate in favor of generic sexing, then I don't care. Sex, for me, is just another way to tell me things about the characters, not just for its own sake.
