Re: How do you prefer your smut?

Well, it's complicated, isn't it? I want to get right to the juicy bits, but for some things, the lead-up is part of the juicy bits for me, where the tension and the feeling matters a lot to why I find it hot. Similarly, characterization is hit or miss - sometimes it'll bother me so much I can't keep reading, sometimes I just don't give a shit. I think the important thing is to not turn the characters into people from a romantic comedy. As long as you keep some piece of their central characteristics from canon in there, I can deal with it.

Pretty much this. I like the juicy bits, but how much I like those bits is kind of dependent on what comes before them. If there isn't a nice lead-up then it just isn't as satisfying. Smut with absolutely no story or lead-in is not as interesting to me.
