I hate surprise!French because almost nobody gets it right and the characters supposed to speak it fluently just end up sounding weird.
Of course, if the writer can actually pull it off, I tend to be overjoyed, like "hey, I got that!"

Yeah, I get you. I can never understand American actors when they speak French. Like Tony Stark in Iron Man 2 - a friend had to tell me that it was French and not another language - or even worse Allison Argent in Teen Wolf.
