Two Gorram Days + rest of the series (Firefly): Jayne gets stuck alone with River for the titular two damn days, and oddly they get along quite well! This story uses the 'horseshoe nail' idea of small starting differences to change the course of the Firefly universe for the better. Some romance, some violence, a lot of family feels and triumphing of big damn heroes. includes some things I'd wanted more of, like friendship between Simon and Inara, and certain people NOT DYING because psychics can predict and prevent such things

Balance (Harry Potter): It starts with the teachers fighting a BALROG and only gets better from there. Inter-house unity, total badass professors, lots of cool ideas about spells and magic...the day is saved by dancing and jumprope and IT MAKES SENSE AND IS AWESOME seriously just read it..!

Figurative Hell and Literal High Water (SGA): IF you like SGA and/or Mag7 you probably already know Tipper; she writes some of the best gen/team/action fics there is. In this one, an extremely determined Rodney drags Keller through several natural disasters, mostly the hurricane, to bring help back to his team. Rodney's great, Keller's great, the team is great and their presence is felt even when they're 'off-screen'. Good times!
