Until I got to the word Sterek I though you were talking about politics.

You should organize a posse to do nothing but vote against Destiel and Sterek

or see if you can get 4chan to adopt a pairing or something, IDK

I really don't get the point of these sorts of things. And the stanning for votes gets ridiculous. And the people voting multiple times. How, exactly, is it an accurate vote on what is more popular when some people are voting 50+times? And people put so much stock in these votes as if winning is somehow important and means something.

Don't you know? If [insert ship] wins maybe the producers will finally see the light and MAKE IT CANON!11!!11!!

I have seen people saying that more that once. IDGI

IA. It's all about number of fans X how many times they vote. They should at least lock by IP.

I had fun doing it last year. It was nice for a bunch of people in my fandom to come together and do something. And my ship got surprisingly far, so people celebrated by making art and fic. But I understand where you're coming from. Parts of it can get nasty, and I wish it wasn't taken so seriously.

It means nothing at the end of the day though. You still like the pairings you like whether or not they won some arbitrary internet contest. I get the frustration though.

Whatever happened to Character Battles? Is GameFAQs still doing those, or did fandom finally move on?

Re: This reminds me . . .

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure GameFAQs still does the character battle each year.

You know what I don't get. How does destiel beat wincest in all the online polls? Everytime I see an fandom related kinkmeme or ficfinder or anything, it's dominated by Dean/Sam, so...where do they go for the polls? I just don't get it.

Dean/Sam people are more frequent voters in votes involving individual boys. If it is Sam v. Dean or Sam v. Castiel or Dean v. Castiel, you can be sure they'll vote many times for their favorite brother. Destiel shippers tend to stick more to shipping polls and get more passionate about them. I think some of it is a persecution complex. I liked the ship back when I was in the fandom, but Sam/Dean and Destiel fandoms were both equally crazy, though sometimes in different ways.

Wincest is still alive? I left a few years back and I've only heard about destiel since then so I assumed wincest had died!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I got so invested in trying to get Athelnar to beat Hannigram that I forgot to vote for Cherik and fuckin ARTHUR AND EAMES WON THAT MATCH ARE YOU SERIOUS

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's crazy but it matches with the weird popularity of pairings that have almost no basis in canon (mostly Sterek, less so Destiel).

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, well thanks OP for letting me know it had started up again this year. I don't vote, but I always find it interesting to see how the rounds play out.

This measures the obsession of the fans

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
That's literally all it does. There are no controls to limit repeat voting, so these sorts of polls are basically meaningless.

Re: This measures the obsession of the fans

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, this year you have to type in a captcha to vote, so that does limit it.

Exactly. God the investment gives me so much second-hand embarrassment.

Of course, I remember I was rigging around the first one to see if I could get whatever pairing I forgot about to beat Legolas/Aragorn. Because that is a shit pairing.

never again

Why is this even a thing? It's not like it'll have any effect on the actual show.
