I really don't understand how people can sustain butthurt this long. They must keep picking at their hemorrhoids to intentionally keep them from healing or something. It was, like, nine years, four companions, and three Doctors ago.

For some people, Doctor Who began with Nine and ended with Ten. And Rose was the only companion who mattered.

For me it began with Nine and ended with Nine. I tried Ten and hated him. I tried Eleven and hated him. I tried Classic Who and fell asleep.

As someone into genre TV and British stuff in general, I felt really guilty, but... yeah. I don't like Doctor Who. I like the Ninth Doctor.

Nothing wrong with that. It is the people who take their opinion and claim it as objective fact that bug me. There is a difference between saying Ten is your favorite and insisting that everyone else should think that Ten is the best and saying it every chance you get even in discussions on some other aspect of Who.

You realize this is a fandom that still argues about events that go back to the '60s, y'know? :P

Sure, but I'm also surprised people are still butthurt about shit like that. I love Doctor Who but it has one of the most unpleasant fandoms I've ever been in. When you compare it to major fandoms that are almost as old (like Star Trek TOS) or even older (like Sherlock Holmes), it never fails to astound me just how unusually large and how deeply nasty the nasty contingent of the DW fandom is.

(Not that there aren't a good deal of awesome DW fans of course, but proportionately speaking...)

This. It's fucking ridiculous how consistently and oppressively negative Doctor Who fandom is. There's a reason that I only ever talk about Doctor Who completely anon & don't want to admit that I'm a fan of it. Like you say, even when you compare it to fandoms that are equally nerdy, and that have been around almost as long, the level of infighting and vitriol in DW fandom is remarkable. And they're nasty about fucking everything, and they can't help but be nasty, no matter what the context.
