Actually, this was something I noticed about the promo photos even before the Moffat-era ones started getting skeevy. It wasn't even in the context of Nine and Rose, it was in a conversation about female gaze and Tennant's body language--a lot of the RTD era promo shots have the Doctor and the companion posed with equal prominence, directness, etc. Even in the ones where one of them is posed at an angle/glancing sidelong at the camera/in an off-kilter stance, it's almost as likely to be the Doctor as the companion. It's just as true for Martha and Donna as it is for Rose. And that's... not really "omg look at him staring blankly into the camera, that blink in frame 3 conveys so much emotion!" Tumblr overanalysis, it's a valid observation. The butthurt framing as proof that the entire Moffat era is awful and RTD is a saint is kind of obnoxious, but if you're going to start drawing comparisons, yeah, the promo images have been getting pretty sketch, especially since that awful one for Asylum of the Daleks.

Isn't it classic tumblr blowing things out of proportion? I mean there is valid criticism to be made, and even from a swift parsing of pics I am seeing a trend of the girls looking like they have less agency in the Moffat-era companions. It's just a shame it gets caught up in hyperbole and finger-pointing and whatnot.
