I don't know the context either, but I'm guessing it's some kind of reaction to producers of reality tv engineering "storylines" from participants' background/issues. And when those are laid on really thick, they can be quite annoying. So maybe every time this woman's on, OP's getting a big dose of "I OVERCAME MY ANXIETY TO BE HERE" type stuff? Which I can understand disliking, but I'm not sure it's offensive.

Personally, my least favorite are the folksy, small-town personae, all wide-eyed at "city life" (especially if it's something like Big Brother, where they're not even interacting with the city in question).

i know a person in real life who never shuts up about being a "country mouse" who's so amazed at "city life" (our city isn't even that big) so that's annoyingly realistic, sadly. like omg woman shut up you life on the outskirts of the city and work for a small company and don't go out much. please stop talking about how amazing "city life" is, lol

My brother's girlfriend is always exaggerating about how her hometown is in the middle of nowhere. I've been there, it's about on par with where I live, but she never shuts up about all the things they don't have where she's from.
