Current fandom hates when stories aren't black and white and if characters are morally complex. It's especially honed on tumblr where this attitude is the prevailing one.

Oh, you young whippersnapper. I've been in fandom since the '80s and this stuff has a LONG history.

Yeah, me too, but I don't remember it being quite so virulent, back in the day, for some reason. The whole "stories must have good clear morals and perfectly distinguish right from wrong OR IT IS BAD" was always there, but I remember at least a majority of people being like "lol no". Now it seems like that's the default attitude to take.
