I get annoyed because I feel like in a show that is supposed to be competitive it gives an unfair advantage to them. Horrible things happen and I'm sorry that these people had to go through it, but it's not relevant to their talent. And there are people that will throw them a few sympathy votes. If they want to do these side stories, I'd be more interested in things that showcase their personality and who they are now as a person. Since the name of the game is to find someone that appeals to a wide audience, I feel like that would be more relevant than detailing their hardships.
