Honestly, everything about the new movies is worse. The special effects/music and actors might be the only exceptions.

But the writing? Worse
The characters? Worse
The story? Worse
The settings? Worse

Heck, even the progressive values are worse. Fucking Khan whitewashing. Carol Marcus and Uhura both stripping down to their underwear and being peeped at.

It's a shame when you consider Star Trek's legacy. It's a damn shame that something from the 1960s manages to outstrip movies made in 2009/2013.

Obviously I agree with you about the special effects, but the actors? Sure the original cast weren't Oscar-tier, but they were still 100x more memorable and charismatic than the reboot cast could ever hope to be.

I'll admit, I'm mostly thinking of Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike. The original Pike just really bored me...

The original Pike was also only there for a pilot episode and then as a beeping invalid while they replayed footage of the pilot episode. He wasn't exactly important.

I just really love Bruce Greenwood. The fact that Pike died in the sequel really killed a lot of my enthusiasm. That and it so very predictable.
