I adore the Ritchie!verse, but Downey's Holmes is a bit ... weird, yes. Not so much the rough-and-tumble attitude or the physicality of him, ACD Holmes had a bit of that, but RDJ Holmes does seem a bit like what might happen if you gave ACD Holmes a semi-permanent concussion and a lot of caffeine and then set him loose.

This is like the best explanation of RDJ!Holmes ever. LOL.

RDJ!Holmes always seemed to me to be someone who was fairly in-character for how Holmes was in A Study in Scarlet, but not for how he was in the rest of the series.

FIxed it for you! So it works because it's an AU where he just uses it all the time instead of in extremis, and Watson's nagging has zero effect, so Watson's just given up on that.

I like RDJ, but he makes a terrible Holmes. To be fair, the Holmes in Ritchie's movie isn't Holmes at all, it's RDJ wearing slightly Victorian clothing.
