I always find these kind of secrets odd because I never felt like you have to be shut in a cave to have nerdy hobbies. Fandom can be as much a part of real life as anything, it's just a hobby.

I will grant that fandom can be time consuming (I don't spend near as much time in it as I did when I was younger) but the things I like... are just the things I like. When I was young I used to think I'd have to abandon fandom at a certain age, but being an adult made me realize that it's my spare time and I should do what makes me happy.

I could have written that.

But you can grow out of the things you like, so I don't see how your point is relevant?

I don't often use "growing out of" as a way to describe my interests changing though (especially because I am well into my adult years now.) I think it can feel a little condescending to people who are still interested in it and who are full grown adults.

Sometimes interests changing are very temporary things too, like I get sick of something for a while, or I don't have time for it at the moment, then I come back to it years later.

I am glad that OP is happy now, I think I was just a little confused by their phrasing.

While I characterise my change in interests as 'growing out' of fandom, I by no means meant to imply fandom, as an interest, is childish. More that I've grown into someone else, as we all do overtime, and there's no room for fandom in my life anymore.

In retrospect I would change the wording to something else.
