This is kind of how I feel about the latest gundam series over the last decade.

One of the reason's I adore Gunam Wing is that it involved EARTH and it's colonies. That's it. Not god mode gundams or some shit like that.

I'd probably lik the original run of Gundam if the art were ever updated and the freakin' afros were gone. They just...don't look right on them.

But isn't that the same for all Gundam series? Admittedly, I've not seen many recent series so I'm not sure if this has changed, but the conflict is limited to Earth and the colonies when it comes to Gundam. The universe is never at stake.

And as much as I enjoy Wing, the gundams were overpowered.

I disagree on the over powered. Compared to Seed and 00? Poor Wing Zero would be blasted to bits.

And hell, in Endless Waltz, Zero didn't really last long. Just enough to break defenses (to make a point really) and boom, it fell apart.

The other Gundams weren't nearly so powerful and were actually quite useless after a while. If Quatre lost or broke his blades? All he had left was his armor. Trowa was always pretty useless after his initial assault. He had a knife to fight with. A little dinky knife.

Wufei was never really much for group mechanics so he was always fighting alone and kind of outnumbered. He got bette rin the reboot comic with the giant sword he could throw and haul back.

Deathscythe? He had to be fast, cause he HAD no armor. It's why he relied on stealth and speed.

Zero was really the only contender and that was just due to his guns and the Zero System.

I love them to pieces, but they were hardly over powered.

I'm not comparing them to Gundams from other series. In their own series, they were overpowered. Especially when fighting against Leos, Tauruses and Aries. They were never a threat and yeah, they are grunts, but even they were just so ridiculously useless against the Gundams.

Against Tallgeese and Epyon, they we're a bit more evenly matched.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong since it has been a while since I've seen the series.

Early part of the series maybe, but by the second half, once they introduced the Mobile Dolls (and they'd had had to drop their gundams for a while cause every one went LOLNOPE to them after the disaster with Marshal Noventa), even the Gundams were getting their asses kicked and that was due to sheer relentless numbers. They had to rely on a master tactician using the Zero system (Quatre) in order to have a chance and then that's how they knew the MDs were being controlled by Dorothy (during the big battle at the end).

Maybe it changes later on in the series, like I said I've not watched it in a while.

Unlike the Gundams in other series, the GW suits were built to be doomsday devices, not general combat machines. They were basically walking nukes that were meant to utterly devastate the enemy instead of engage them.

Exactly.

Man, Wing was pretty ridiculous. I love it but it was just absolutely ridiculous. Might have to dig out my DVDs and rewatch it. Wish someone would license rescue the Gundam franchise so i can get gloriously remastered blu-rays of it and others. Those remasters look so good.

Yes, if they decided to Self Destruct. I don't consider that "over powered" when they have to hit their "oh shit" button.
