And, I have to stand up for Mint here. Sure, she may be kind-hearted, but she also won't give up even if she is arguably one of the weaker characters in the game. Some characters just ARE kind-hearted and soft-spoken, so WHAT? Most people aren't as cookie-cutter as you portray them like that, and I'm pretty sure most of those characters don't fall under that and not have any other sort of personality.

So, thanks for your sweeping generalisation and gross overstatements, and I'll be playing Tales of Phantasia now.

Done. I fall easily like that, because I am the enemy of yaoi-players, the kind female, apparently.

It's not all for the weeaboos, it's also because there are a lot of women like that OUT THERE. I mean, for those who don't like Mint, you had Arche.

Seriously, I love Mint. And the other female characters in that picture are arguably even stronger. Just... don't touch my Mint. She saved my ass so often.

I adore Mint. Hell, I adore Tales of Phantasia, and the way I see it there wasn't a character in that main cast (even supporting cast) you could call out as being weak of heart. Especially not Mint, but god forbid you be strong and feminine, right? I can list a whole bunch of female characters from the top of my head right now who, despite being bold, fierce, kicking ass and taking names, etc. had more hidden weaknesses and insecurities than those who were quiet and demure.

... AND TL;DR BASICALLY THE OP WAS BUTTHURT BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T SHIP CLESS/CHESTER.

EDIT: And I love how I completely derailed from the whole Mint =/= Yamato Nadeshiko argument because I wanted to defend her. DURRR.

I do too, ohgod. It always pisses me off when people write down a single word for a character and then have it be the be-all-end-all of her personality. The minute I saw her I was headdesking, thinking she was going to be exactly the person the op of 37 wrote her off as, but she surprised me a lot. ♥

*SNORT* I was all for shipping Dhaos anyhow. Cless/Dhaoooos. And hell, who cares about canon pairings if you're in it for the slash? Just AU the sucker.

Yes, I loved both Cless/Mint as well as Dhaos/Cless. I must be a blip in her calculations? XD

Agreed! In general, I think the Tales series really delivers on multifaceted characters... with some exceptions, anyway. (I don't really like Shirley either, so I couldn't care less that she was in the OP's secret.) But Mint? Tear? Is the OP even playing the same games, or is this just fanon speculation? And I haven't even gone into her non-Tales choices.

... oh, SNAP. Cless/Dhaos?! D: I never even thought about that as a pairing! I kind of want to see it now, out of morbid curiosity. I bet someone could make it work.

♥ I ship Chester/Arche so much. But fanfiction only goes so far and I can never find someone who plays her. (I may or may not cry myself to sleep over it. D:)

To be honest, I only play emulators, so I only know ToP. Yes, I do deserve to be shot. XD But man, I love my ToP. And yeah, don't even start on the other characters, I'll just get angry again. T^T

Hahaha. Well that was from the time where I slashed EVERYTHING, and Hell, Dhaos was the first believeable bad guy (with a reason FTW) I saw, and... yeah. If I ever go and replay it, I may or may not write fic. Hahaha. Just to see how it'd work.

Well, the series is grossly underappreciated, I'm sure if it was more popular people'd be all over Arche. She's just too awesome. (Aww ♥ SOME DAY! And until then, fanfiction's the key? XD)

And that's okay with me, because more people need to play ToP! And... yeeeah. Not starting on the other characters. I'd rather sit back and watch the wank unfold elsewhere. (I had to help you defend Mint, though. We're Mighty Morphin' Minty Rangers, for serious.)

Aww, I love Dhaos. For all of his big bad-assery, I still sympathized with him. (And yes, go! Go write fic! I want to see how it works. D:)

Trueee. Let alone original Star Ocean. Shit, I love Joshua, but nobody even HEARD of it over Star Ocean Ex or 2 or whatever. Sadness. And well, Mint kind of defends herself, but still awesome. T^Tb M-Minty Rangers FTW? XD

Yeees, Dhaos was the first in a string of 'bad' guys I adored. I can't deny his looks helped (orz honestly why so pretty), but I was pretty sad when he died. (orz;; It's been AGES since I played it. Plus I always get stuck at that boss way early on. Hahaha.)

I've replied to about ten different people on this right now, so excuse me if my temper is getting a bit short.

I don't dislike Mint personally. I just think she's a cliche. I am sick of the cliche. It's been done again and again and again and again. It's boring. K?

Also, I like Arche/Klarth. Where can I put Cless now if not with Chester?

You know what, people keep telling that to me. I just can't do it. Characters like that flat turn me off, and I'm really sick of getting attacked for it (OMG SEXIST or whatever).

You don't have to like her type of character (even if Mint is NOTHING like you portrayed her in the secret, only at a slight glance), but if you take it as a reason for playing yaoi, you're doing it wrong. Play yaoi because you like it, not because you hate those females.

Also, there are OTHER females, not just the gentle type. So really, your reasoning makes no sense. Just like yaoi for yaoi, like the rest of us.

I did say that I liked Arche/Klarth. Again, where does that leave Cless? /de-anon'd.

Anyway, I probably should have left the 'slash' part out, as it is true for some of those fandoms but definitely not all. If there's a love triangle, though I've always had trouble pairing the hero with the rejected girl. Personal quirk, but I'd rather see her get over him and find someone else (Ditto if it's two guys and a girl. I can't stand to see the pining). :( After those two are off the list, the pool of available women becomes rather small.

I'm not going to argue Cless/Mint vs. Cless/Chester with you. Both are viable options, it's just that with the phrasing you made, it seemed that you paired them up because you hated Mint, not because you liked Cless/Chester or whatever.

I think that's what got you all the wank. If you'd written 'I dislike these characters because their basis annoys me' it would've been easier to swallow. I mean, sure, it would've been comparing apples and pears, but it would've made more sense than to draw a connection between slashing and disliking characters. Just write slash for slash itself.

I personally don't see the need to pair anyone up unless they work together, but whatever floats your boat. And I can see why you'd dislike a character, but the way you brushed a giant comb of whatever-the-term-is over all of those characters, and then said 'they're the reason I ship BL' made me do a double-take. I mean, I got where you were coming from, but it may have been more carefully phrased.

Agreed, it's just the phrasing made it initially seem like another "I ship yaoi because female characters always totally suck" secret.
