37. I'm um. Going to try not to be blinded by nerd-rage here, and ask you an honest question. You write slash because you hate the 'traditional' role of women. Okay, that's a little faulty logic, but maybe-sorta-kinda your heart is in the right place there. I think you picked some awful examples of that kind of woman, but I digress.

My question is this: if you're angry at the way that women are subverted and dominated by men, how in the world is placing men on a pedestal and making them out to be better than women going to help the situation?

[identity profile] cftf.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Buttsex solves all problems, duh.

Why would you use something so stupid as LOGIC, really?

(Anonymous) 2007-12-08 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Logic is for losers.

LOGIC IS PIG DISGUSTING

♥ ♥ ♥

This is basic feminist theory, people (gasp! feminism! THAT DIRTY WORD!). Stop blaming women for the problems men have imposed on them.

Granted the fact that these are female characters rather than real women makes it a bit more complex in fandom, but I see the general "blame women who don't measure up to my standard of feminism" thing too often in fandom, rather than rational discussion of how female characters are shortchanged by male (or male-dominated) authors.

OP of 37

Wow, so many people are missing the point. I suppose I was not clear.

I don't hate these women. I find them boring. That is all.

If I want het I go for women that interest me. HALLO THAR SUIKODEN V.

I suppose I was not clear.

Yeah, that is actually exactly your problem. You slap some pictures of female characters on top of a text article and then say "These women are the reason I write slash."

Can you not see why a ton of people would have a problem with the image as it is, without any clarification by you as the author? It is horribly vague, and without a stated reason behind it, comes off as really sexist. It isn't us missing the point so much as you failing to make the point you intended.

Yeah, I screwed up in conveying the message and now am I ever paying for it. -.-;; Fun times. Good wank.

Well, to be quite honest, even some of your comments in this post (like, uh, this (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/105739.html?thread=24047883#t24047883)) are coming across as rather hostile and defensive and decidedly icky, which really isn't helping your case, so... buck up, kid. Everyone fails sometimes. Just ignore it and move on. /o/

It's hard to be nice when people say things like 'People like you are the reason I'm ashamed to write slash' and variations on 'GTFO my fandom.' Sometimes it just gets frustrating.

Oh well, it could always be worse, I guess...

Re: OP of 37

[identity profile] moebot.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
People are saying those things because of a)your attitude and b)the original vagueness of the secret (what it is implied you said vs. what you wanted to say). If you had worded it better ("I think these characters are boring for [x reason]") and as more of a personal opinion and had more care in picking the characters you chose for the secret (some do not prove your point at all), you might not have had all the wank. But in the end, it isn't the fault of the commentors. It's kind of yours.

I mean, you admitted you did this whole thing poorly; acting superior about it on top of that is really not putting you in the best light.

I've been trying to make up for that, OK? I still don't think that even trashing a fictional character(s) (which wasn't my intent) merits personal attacks.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I asked the same question. Didn't get a valid answer either.
