14. Yeah, because everyone who watches Heroes likes Hiro? Uh... what? I haven't watched tv in years, because I just haven't seen anything I liked enough to bother watching consistantly. And then I saw Heroes. And it appealed to the interest in superheroes that I'd thought was long dead, and it simultaneously appealed to my interest in subdued, modern day heroes. The whole show is cliche and a common idea, sure, but as a television show, it's actually pretty novel. And hokey? I'm sorry, compared to, say, Smallville? Sure, Heroes isn't the greatest thing ever, but it doesn't mean a person has no taste if they like it.

You're entitled to your opinion, but what a dick way to say it. I hope everything you watch on tv get cancelled too. =D

35. Don't you love the idea that a woman with a broken hymen is somehow a completely different creature? Oh society, go eat a dick.

37. While I'll agree that there are some characters on there that struck me as subservient, loving, ideal housewife-girlfriend walking vaginas, there's a few that really aren't a good example of your point. I'll go for an easy target and elaborate on one. I think you missed the part where Aeris grows up in a dystopian slum and carries a large stick around, and has a tendency to drag Cloud around. I don't know where she's demure or subservient except in appearance, and if you're going to peg all small, long-haired women as being like that, well then, shit son.

Disliking stereotypical female characters is what initially led me to liking slash, I'll confess, but after a while, I realized that I was trying too hard to see the stereotype sometimes and it blinded me to liking characters who honestly weren't stereotypical, weren't any of the things I thought they were. I was just trying so hard to find a reason to slash their canon love interests that I was bypassing them for no reason. And you know, that sort of behavior is one of those reasons that slash fangirls get a reputation of being 12 years old and too sexist to see good female characters. When I went back and evaluated all the characters that I thought were just some lonely guy trying to write his ideal girlfriend, I found that some number of them were actually unique, interesting, and strong characters.

Maybe I'm just applying my teenage years onto you, because all I have to go off is your secret, but there's my tl;dr anyways. And maybe the anime industry in particular has changed, but it seems sometimes like there's less ideal housewife girlfriends these days than there were when I very first got into it.

You might have a point there, and my opinion will change with time (hopefully the entire genre will change and all the other cliches with it, but that's a bit much to hope for). I *do* think that they're a type, and a type that I find boring... and believe it or not I do like het and rejoice for certian games (I know I mentioned Suikoden V a few times in some of my replies for having a simply AWESOME female cast, love interest and all. Lyon = epic win.)

Of course, not liking the type makes OMG SO SEXIST!!11, according to all the wank I seem to have started...

No, negatively grouping together an entire set of female characters whose personalities are nothing alike for the purpose of elevating male characters makes you OMG SO SEXIST!!11.

:)

But... they are alike. They share various traditionally feminine traits and the same roles in gameplay in within the story.

I mean, isn't it at least a bit strange when you realize that the love interests of every protagonist in 95% of every JRPG ever made are healers? Wouldn't you want to look for other patterns as well?

That, dearheart, is called an archetype. Not a stereotype. Maybe you should learn the connotational difference.

Your problem is that YOU are the one doing the stereotyping. I could spend hours writing out the vast differences between Yuna, Aeris, and Garnet, but I'm not going to because I don't feel like it.

I'll be nice for a moment and say this: There are JUST AS MANY character archetypes for men, and yet you notice the differences between them. Perhaps you need to take a step back and evaluate your OWN view.

Fine, call it an archetype, I still don't like those characters and I still find them boring.

Like it has been mentioned at least five or six times already, I'm quite aware that the men are typed. I find the 'types' - be them archetypes or stereotypes, whatever the hell you feel like calling them - to be more appealing.

I never said I didn't like ALL female types, just this one. I DON'T LIKE THE HEALER-LOVE-INTEREST TYPE. I'm not saying it's BAD or WRONG or other people shouldn't like it, I'm saying *I* don't like it. K?

*sigh*

I've had a day to think on the matter, and this post I think will explain my position better than all the wanking I did yesterday.
