...The Nadeshiko ideal -is- Belldandy. She's graceful, composed, meek, humble,willing to do anything for the man in her life, and above all, very, very passive.

Sure, Yuna is quite high on traits. But she isn't passive, she isn't meek, and she is not there purely to back up Tidus. She's got her own thoughts, her own ideals, and her own goals that do not revolve around kimonos and tea ceremonies and Tidus.

Not to back up Tidus, rather to back up the ideals of her society. She's obedient in that she is obeying the expectations of her role as high summoner.

I don't really get what your point is, or how that makes her character any different.

Anyone would not have since every other damned high summoner found out the exact same thing she did and said okay. Yuna was the only one who said it was wrong. Her father followed along and did as he was told. She did not. That's what makes her different.

Let me rephrase that.

This is a videogame plot. There will be a victory over evil and a happy ending. No matter what kind of girl Yuna had been, for the sake of fighting the final boss and giving the plot the conclusion that every videogame has, the same decision would have been made in the end.

Personally, I think that if Yuna HAD died? That would have been fucking awesome. Way to screw with everyone's expectations!

I wouldn't say that Belldandy is "very very passive". Just "passive" by itself maybe, but she can kick butt when she's called upon to do so. And she makes her own decisions, especially regarding her relationships with her sisters. If anything, she relies on the Almighty more than she relies on Keiichi, but she's a Goddess, that's part of her job.

Seconding so hard. Belldandy, if anything, wants to be the perfect goddess and makes her decisions based on THAT. Even so, there have been times she ever disregarded her perfect goddess persona to help her sisters, as can be seen in the Terrible Master Urd arc. She loves Keiichi, but there have been times when she makes decisions not in his interests but for her own and her sisters instead.

Belldandy may fit the YN archetype, but she's also very strong and not passive in other ways.
